08.02.2015 - 08.02.2015
Today is the first of five days at sea and started with a spectacular sunrise just to make the day 'special'. I started my day by climbing from our cabin located on Deck 11 Forward to one of the best vantage points at Deck 19 Aft from where I get the best view when the ship is sailing Eastwardly. After capturing the sunrise it was down to Deck 15 Aft for breakfast in the Horizon Court.
Back to the cabin for a shower and a change of clothes then a walk down to Deck 7 Aft to the Club Fusion for a Culinary Demonstration. Took my Kindle because that event was not scheduled to start until 1015. The demonstration consisted of an advertisement for the two speciality restaurants. Had to duck out early to be in the Theatre on Deck 7 Forward for the lecture by Captain Vincent Williams on the subject of "Two of History's Dangerous Women". An interesting insight to Cleopatra and Princess Medea.
Up to the cabin on Deck 11 to rendezvous with Jenny followed by a quick dash up to the Trident Grill on Deck 15 for a quick bite. Down to the cabin to pick up the Kindle and off to the theatre on Deck 7 for the Astronomy Lecture by Robert Turner who explored the Southern stars and introduced us to the way our sight works and that the mind tries to make sense of what we 'see'.
Stayed in the Theatre to watch an interesting movie. "Gone Girl" stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris. Unlike a number of false starts recently we stayed through to the end. The plot was intricate and quite gory in parts. Backup to Deck 11 to our cabin to prepare for dinner. Down the stairs again to the Dining room on Deck 6 Midship. Mary and Donald were there and a surprising range of choices with lobster, duck and pork belly featuring on the menu.
With the first show starting within minutes of finishing dinner we decided to aim for the later show at 2100. So up to Deck 7 to our cabin where we discovered a 'special invitation' to a "Rapid Fire Art Auction". We are invited to attend and receive a 'free work of art' with no obligation to buy. Worth checking it out even if it is a mere gimmick. Shortly after 2000 we're off to the Theatre on Deck 7 with our Kindles in readiness for the second show.
Tonight's entertainment was the mentalist Alex Crowe from the UK. He performed many feats that defied logic and were totally unbelievable. He claims it to be 'mind reading' but is totally unbelievable to me. I did leave the theatre totally dumbfounded by what I'd observed. Climbed back up to our cabin on Deck 11 and completed this story. Sunrise tomorrow is at 0542 and will have to get up at about 0515 to be on deck ready to catch it.
If you're interested in doing the math, there are 16 risers on the stairs between the decks except for between Decks 7 and 8 which has 22 risers.
Tomorrow is another 'at sea' day as we make our way South towards Brazil.
