02.02.2015 - 02.02.2015
The wind was still strong this morning and there were some serious clouds above the horizon. Decks were still closed but I did manage some of my walk although still restricted to a reduced section of Deck 16. The daily 'Patter' had forecast a sunrise at 0640 but there was little hint of it by 0700. Joined Jenny for breakfast and then captured some images of the sun breaking out of the clouds at about 0745.
Our day's activities started at 0915 with the Barbados port lecture, followed almost immediately by the Astronomy Presentation at 1030. With scarcely time to draw breath the next Port lecture started at 1145 which ran over time, finishing just after 1300. No time for lunch and onto the Maritime lecture commencing at 1330. The topics are amazing with so many tiny pieces of detail that demonstrate the depth of research by the presenters,
On my to-do list was the need to find out if we had any 'Future Cruise Deposits' in reserve. It was a pleasure to meet Angela again. She confirmed that we still have some spares so apart from a reacquaintance chat there was no business transacted. It was nice to be remembered and greeted enthusiastically. A quick bite from the International Café and I finally caught up with Jenny at about 1500. No time for my regular nap. I have to prepare for tonight's formal dinner. It takes a while to set up the outfit.
Lovely dinner with all the crew in formal attire. A good sprinkling of ladies in gowns and gents in formal rig as well. We had selected today as the day to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary (actual date 7 January). We were presented with a small chocolate cake that we shared.
Stayed around the Piazza for the champagne fountain and the Captain's address. We stood there for quite some time and then realised it would be another half hour to the Captain's appearance and decided to call it quits. We returned to the stateroom and found that our laundry had been returned a good day earlier than expected. Great !!
I've been asked for some details about the ship:
She's the Ruby Princess - launched in 2008
She's 951 feet long and 195 feet high
She measures 113,561 gross tons (cubic measure)
She carries 3,082 passengers plus 1,200 crew
Tomorrow we dock in St John, Antigua. Arriving at 0900 and departing at 1730
